The Story
Japanese Honeysuckle has long been a favourite in Australian home fragrance, and it's easy to understand why.
The fragrance opens brightly with mandarin and crisp green leaves, accompanied by a juicy, nectar-like fruitiness that gives it an immediate freshness.
At its heart, Japanese honeysuckle is joined by orange blossom, jasmine and soft rose petals. The combination creates a generous floral bouquet — sweet and full, but without becoming heavy or powdery.
As the fragrance settles, golden nectar and smooth vanilla bring warmth and softness. Cedarwood and woody amber sit underneath, giving the sweeter floral and fruity notes structure and a more grounded finish.
The result is uplifting yet comforting, floral without feeling old-fashioned and sweet without becoming a traditional gourmand fragrance.
It's this balance that makes Japanese Honeysuckle so easy to live with — and such an enduring home-fragrance favourite.
Where It Works
Best for living rooms, bedrooms, entrance spaces and open-plan areas.
Japanese Honeysuckle is particularly versatile because it combines freshness, florals and warmth in the same fragrance.
In a living room, the mandarin and green notes keep it bright while the honeysuckle, jasmine and orange blossom give the fragrance enough presence to carry through the space.
In a bedroom, vanilla, nectar and soft woody amber bring a warmer, gentler quality as the fragrance develops.
It also works beautifully near an entrance or hallway, where the fresh floral character creates an inviting first impression when you enter the home.
Joanne's placement: Japanese Honeysuckle works beautifully in interiors with natural light, greenery and softer textures. Try it on a console near an entrance, a living-room side table or a bedside table alongside linen, timber, ceramics and fresh flowers.
The Vessel
The vessel is designed to be part of the room, not simply a container for the candle.
Once the candle has finished, remove the remaining wax and clean the glass. The vessel can then be reused as a small vase, bathroom container, brush holder or decorative object around the home.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does Japanese Honeysuckle smell like?
Japanese Honeysuckle is a bright floral-fruity fragrance. Mandarin, green leaves and juicy fruit provide freshness before honeysuckle, orange blossom, jasmine and rose emerge. Vanilla, cedarwood and woody amber give it a warmer finish.
Is Japanese Honeysuckle a sweet fragrance?
It has a noticeable sweetness from the honeysuckle, fruit, golden nectar and vanilla, but the green leaves, citrus and woods help balance it. It's floral and gently sweet rather than a rich gourmand fragrance.
Is it a traditional floral fragrance?
Not really. Although honeysuckle, jasmine, orange blossom and rose are central to the fragrance, mandarin, green leaves and fruit keep it fresh, while cedarwood and woody amber give it a more contemporary finish.
Where does Japanese Honeysuckle work best?
It's particularly suited to living rooms, bedrooms, entrance spaces and open-plan areas. Its combination of freshness, florals and warmth makes it one of the more versatile fragrances in the collection.
Would Japanese Honeysuckle make a good gift?
Yes. Its combination of familiar florals, fresh citrus and gentle sweetness makes it an approachable fragrance when choosing a candle for someone else.
How long will the 400g Japanese Honeysuckle candle burn?
Approximately 60 hours when burned and cared for correctly.
Candle Care
For the first burn, allow the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the vessel. This usually takes between 2–4 hours and helps prevent tunnelling.
Trim the wick to approximately 5mm before every burn.
Do not burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at a time, and keep it away from draughts.
Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it away from children, pets and flammable materials.
Stop burning when approximately 10mm of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel.
Once finished, clean the vessel and give it a second life around your home.

"I recently purchased the XL Joanne Johnson Design Vanilla Woods scented candle. The scent of vanilla and sandalwood together is divine! The hand blown vintage tumbler is beautiful and something I can keep after the candle is finished.
